Nowadays, series cancellations are even more common than renewals. Although in the past we could have several seasons about the same characters, since the arrival of the streaming era, and especially because of Netflix, cancellation has become a much more common technique.

For its part, HBO is one of those that has passed the scissors less. While Netflix is the queen of canceling series, its main competitor used to stay a bit more on the sidelines… although, as it has just shown, this is not always the case. The platform has just canceled Perry Mason, the series created by Ron Fitzgerald and Rolin Jones based on Erle Stanley Gardner’s detective novels.

Canceled after two seasons

Perry Mason has two seasons and 81% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Thus, it is one of the best rated series in all of HBO Max. However, this has not helped the series, as it has been cancelled after two seasons. Apparently, due to its audience. From the platform they have not given more clues about what happened. Just a statement:

“We are tremendously grateful for the remarkable work of Matthew Rhys, the cast and the peerless team at Perry Mason for their reinvention of such a treasured and storied franchise. While we will not be moving forward with another season of the series, we are excited to continue working with the brilliant creatives at Team Downey [the production company] on future projects.”

It certainly remains to be seen what Team Downey comes up with after Perry Mason, since despite not getting a huge ratings hit it has interested enough to make it one of the highest rated series in all of HBO Max.
